The useful answer

“Last seen” describes the most recent recorded observation. Live location claims describe where something is now. A drawer image can support the first claim; it cannot establish the second after an item moves outside coverage.

Follow a simple timeline

At 9:24, an adapter is clearly visible in the utility drawer. At 9:32, a new image shows it in the desk drawer. The later observation changes the last-seen record to the desk drawer at 9:32.

At 9:40, the adapter is absent from the visible desk drawer. You now have evidence of absence from that view, but not evidence of its next destination. It might be on a desk, in a bag or somewhere else. The useful answer preserves the last observation and marks the current location as unknown.

Not visible is not always absent

A partly covered object creates another case. If papers obscure the adapter, a new image may be insufficient to confirm whether it remains underneath. That is different from a clear view showing an empty space.

A useful interface should distinguish a confident visible match, an ambiguous observation and a location outside coverage. Collapsing those cases into one reassuring sentence makes the record harder to use.

Read the evidence in the right order

Start with the question you need answered. “Where should I look first?” can be helped by an old observation. “Is it definitely there now?” requires stronger and more current evidence.

Then read the time and inspect the image when the answer matters. Check whether the object is distinctive enough to identify and whether anything blocks the view. A familiar-looking shape can still be a different item.

  1. Check the named storage place.
  2. Read when the object was observed.
  3. Inspect the supporting image if the match is uncertain.
  4. Consider what could have changed since then.
  5. Search beyond coverage when the record cannot establish the next place.
